California’s Proposition 30 would raise top income tax rate, sales taxes (Kay Bell) California already has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, but the bill would raise the top marginal rates to 12.3% on income over $500,000 — with no deduction for state taxes. In a state where over 12,000 public employee retirees have pensions over $100,000, the problem probably isn’t that taxes are too low.
